Collation Centre: Buhari Wins Ekiti With 219,231 Votes

News Room The collation of presidential election results kicked off on Monday at the National Collation Centre, Abuja, with Ekiti State votes. The State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof. Idiwu Olayinka, who read out the results from the state said out of the 395, 741 accredited to vote, APC scored 219, 231 against PDP who scored 154,034 votes. The total number of valid votes according to him stand at 381,132, while 12,577 were rejected bases on multiple thumbprinting. Total vote cast, he said, is 393,709. The party agents are expected to inspect the results sheets signed at the state collation office. Ekiti state is the only state without a Resident Electoral Commissioner.

News Room Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki arrives at his polling unit in Ilorin The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki has delivered his polling unit for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. In the presidential election, the candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar polled 219 votes while Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled 68 votes. Saraki scored 269 votes in the senatorial election to defeat APC which polled 60 votes. PDP also recorded victory in the House of Reps election with 253 votes to APC’s 53 votes.

News Room The Nigerian Army (NA) has released hotlines to its Situation Room from where electoral activities will be monitored. According to as statement by the army the creation of its situation is in pursuant of its mandate to help create a secure and enabling environment for the conduct of the 2019 General Elections. The army said its situation room would be operating  24/7 and urged the general public to forward genuine information on security related matters as may arise during the elections period to the numbers provided. News Room Two persons have been reportedly killed following the violence that broke out at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Obot-Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The incident which resulted in the burning of many vehicles was said to have occurred after some thugs invaded the office where party agents and supporters were waiting for the delivery of sensitive materials from Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. News Room INEC Chairman announcing the postponement of the 2019 elections in Abuja. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the general elections by a week, less than five hours to the start of the polls. According to the commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections, initially scheduled for today, February 16, will now hold on February 23, while the governorship and state houses of assembly elections will take place on March 9. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced the decision at a short press briefing at 2:44 am on Saturday morning.                                            Nigerians are gearing up for the presidential election scheduled to take place on Saturday, 16 February. The West African country has a population of over 190 million, 84 million of whom are registered to vote in that election. Ahead of the vote, Nigerians have been expressing their expectations of the government that comes into power after the process.
