Akpabio Wins APC Senatorial Ticket in Re-Run Election After Stepping Down for Tinubu


Days after stepping down for former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress Presidential primary, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district.

Out of the 540 delegates at the senatorial rerun primary election, 512 were accredited. Akpabio emerges the winner with 478 votes, while Sir Joseph Akpan had one vote. DIG Ekpo Udom who initially won the first primary had three votes, while 11 votes were voided.

Speaking after emerging victorious at the primary Election held at the Godswill Akpabio Empowerment Centre in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Akpabio thanked the people for finding him worthy

He said; 

"I thanked the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district for finding me worthy to be given another opportunity to represent you in the Nigerian Senate. I recall when you gave me the first mandate in 2015 to 2019, I recall that there is no Senator ever that did the kind of empowerment I did for you.

"I know a lot of projects were done across the ten Local Government Areas, from markets to water projects, to electrification project, to building of classroom blocks."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it is too late for Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili to withdraw  as presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN). According to Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, taking such a step at this time is against the constitution as amended. FG To Increase VAT – Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, says the Federal Government will increase the Value Added Tax on some items in the course of the year. Some of the items according to her, will include carbonated drinks as well as some luxury items. She stated this on Wednesday at the launch of the Strategic Revenue Growth Initiative in Abuja, targeted at improving revenue sources for government.
