24 -Year-Old Law Student Has Been Kidnapped In Calaber By Unknown Gunmen

Suspected kidnappers have abducted a 24-year-old law student, Dora Effiom, in Calaber, the Cross River State Capital.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan, who confirmed the incident on Thursday September 1, said the victim was abducted at about 1am on Wednesday in Ikot Ansa area of the city.

Alhassan said the student was kidnapped at the house where she lives with her parents and siblings.

The CP said he had directed the command's Anti-cultism and kidnapping squad to unmask and arrest those behind the abduction.

I want to use this medium to again warn those who are only on Cross River for crime sake to leave the state immediately, because no criminal will be spared," the police boss stated.

Ezekwesili: It’s Too Late For Presidential Candidates To Withdraw — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it is too late for Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili to withdraw as presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN). According to Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, taking such a step at this time is against the constitution as amended. FG To Increase VAT – Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, says the Federal Government will increase the Value Added Tax on some items in the course of the year. Some of the items according to her, will include carbonated drinks as well as some luxury items.
